נולד ב-5 במאי, 1920, ריצ'יבול, פולין.
בנם של בני הזוג בלומה (האם) משה (האב) לבית בריטמן (מבוטא "ברייטמן"). אחיהם של אברם (אלבר), פייגה, חנה רחל. דוד נולד למשפחה ענייה: אביו משה היה כבר בן 55 כשנולד, ואמו בלומה היתה רק בת 21. היו אלה נישואיו השלישיים (1914) של אביו המבוגר, אשר לא העמיד צאצאים משתי נשותיו הקודמות - שרה וגולדה. כבר בגיל 6 החל לסייע בכלכלת המשפחה. בגיל 14 מצא עבודה בכפר מגנושב, באחת המאפיות המקומיות. שם פגש את אשתו לעתיד, מניה לבית ויינטראוב. מלחמת העולם השנייה פרצה בספטמבר 1939. דוד מבין שצריך להימלט. הוא מתחתן במהירות עם מניה, ובורח מפולין ביחד עם אחיו הצעיר, אברם, ובן דודו, ישראל שוורצברג. אל נתיב הבריחה שלהם צירפו גם את אחותה של מניה, ציפורה (פיה). את שנות המלחמה הקשות העבירו דוד ומניה במה שנקרא אז "רוסיה הלבנה" (מחוז סברדלובסק, הרי אורל). שם עבדו ולמדו. דוד למד מקצוע: חשמלאי. משפחתם נשארה מאחור ונרצחה בשואה. ב-1940 נולד בנם הבכור, חיים. ב-1945 נולד בנם האמצעי, משה. לאחר תום המלחמה, בחודש מאי 1946, עזבו את רוסיה חזרה הביתה, אל פולין. כאשר שבו למולדתם התבררה להם האמת המרה: המשפחה הושמדה לחלוטין, והפולנים לא איפשרו להם לגור בביתם. דוד ומשפחתו הפכו פליטים בארצם. באמצעות תנועת "גורדוניה" החלו לנדוד ולהיערך לעלייה לארץ ישראל. ב-1947 הגיעו למחנה פליטים איטלקי, ליד העיר ריבולי. בספטמבר 1948 עזב דוד את אירופה - כף רגלו לא דרכה עוד ביבשת זו. הוא הגיע עם משפחתו לחופי העיר חיפה באמצעות ספינת מעפילים בשם "נגבה", באוקטובר 1948, זמן קצר אחרי הקמת מדינת ישראל. דוד נאלץ להתפרנס בכל מה שהוצע לו. הוא אפילו ניסה את כוחו בדיג (היה דייג לזמן קצר). בזכות הכשרתו המקצועית ברוסיה כחשמלאי, מצא עבודה קבועה בחברת החשמל של ישראל, שם התפרנס בכבוד עד ימיו האחרונים. ב-1955 נולד בנו השלישי, ישראל (צ'וקי). דוד גידל משפחה לתפארת, עבד קשה במספר עבודות במקביל, וראה ברכה בעמלו. לאחר מגורים מאולתרים בואדי רושמיה, עבר לדירה קטנה ברחוב הגיבורים. בסופו של דבר קנה דירה מרווחת בשכונת נווה שאנן בחיפה. מקום העבודה שלו סיפק לו רכב טנדר מסחרי, והוא רכש לעצמו פולקסווגן סטיישן. לימים זכה להפוך ל"סבא דוד" והיה מאושר. לרוע מזלו, היה דוד מעשן סיגריות כבד ("טיים"). הוא אמנם הבין כי הסיגריות מסרטנות, אך הזניח את בריאותו ולא טופל בזמן. דוד בריטמן נפטר ב-8 בפברואר 1984, ממחלת סרטן הריאות, בגיל 63 בלבד. David was born into a poor family: his father Moshe was already 55 when he was born, and his mother Bluma was only 21. This was the third marriage (1914) of his older father, who did not have descendants from his two previous wives - Sarah and Golda. Already at the age of 6 he began to help in the family economy. At the age of 14 he found work in the village of Magnushev, in one of the local bakeries. There he met his future wife, Mania nee Weintraub. World War II broke out in September 1939. David understood that he must escape. He quickly marries Mania, and flees Poland with his younger brother, Abram, and his cousin, Israel Schwarzberg. Later, Mania's sister, Tzipora (Pia), joined. David and Mania spent the difficult years of WW2 in "Belarus" (Sverdlovsk Oblast, Ural Mountains). There they worked and studied. David learned a new trade: an electrician. Their Polish family was left behind and murdered in the Holocaust. Their childhood homes were literally confiscated by the local population. They had nowhere to return, and became exile in the own homeland. In 1940 their eldest son, Haim, was born. In 1945, their middle son, Moshe, was born. In 1947, they arrived at an Italian refugee camp near the city of Rivoli, and spent a full year there. In September 1948, David left Europe, for the last time. He made Aliyah to Eretz Israel. The family arrived in Haifa by boat - using the "Negba" illegal immigrant ship in October 1948, shortly after the establishment of the State of Israel. Through his professional training in Russia, David found work at the Israel Electric Company, where he made an honest living until his last days. In 1955, his third son, Israel (Chuki), was born. David raised his family through hard work, some times at several jobs simultaneously, and saw a blessing in his labors. Bought an apartment in the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood of Haifa and even owned a commercial van. He even became "grandfather David" and was very happy. Unfortunately, David was a heavy cigarette smoker ("Time"). He didn't understand how lethal and carcinogenic were the cigarettes he liked so much. David Brightman died in February 8th 1984, of lung cancer, at the age of only 63. מניה בריטמן (ויינטראוב)

לרוע המזל, במקום להמשיך בענייני הפרנסה, העדיף אביה (ישראל) להיות בסביבת בית הכנסת והרבי ומצא את עצמו יורד מנכסיו ומתקשה למצוא פרנסה ראויה. מאוחר יותר חלתה אשתו, חווה, במחלת השחפת ולא נשאה בעול משק הבית - שנפל בעיקר על כתפי מניה הצעירה. באחד הימים ראה בחור צעיר בשם דוד את מניה תולה כביסה, ומיהר לעזור לה. כמו כן הוא שם לב כי היא טרודה במטלות בבית ובחצר. כך הם המשיכו להיפגש בחצר ומאז לא נפרדו דרכיהם. שניהם נאחזו האחד בשנייה כמבינים האחד את מצוקת חברתו: עוזרים ותומכים בימים ארוכים וקשים של החיים. אימה של מניה, חווה, נפטרה ממחלת השחפת הארורה. אביה זיהה את מצוקתה ושלח אותה לקרובי משפחה בעיר ורשה (1936), אצל הדוד בנימין שוורצברג. כאשר פרצה מלחמת העולם השנייה (1/9/1939), היתה מניה עדיין בוורשה. דוד נסע אליה כדי לקחת אותה איתו ולהציל אותה מן הגרמנים המתקרבים. חתונה זריזה נערכה - והזוג הצעיר הפך בן-לילה לבעל ואישה. דוד גם הצליח לשכנע את אחותה הצעירה של מניה, ציפורה (פיה), להצטרף למסע המסוכן. החבורה הנועזת הצליחה להימלט אל ביאליסטוק. הם נעצרו בגבול הרוסי ע"י הגרמנים, אך הצליחו להמשיך הלאה ולחצות את הגבול. בשלב זה, מניה כבר היתה בהריון עם בנה הבכור, חיים. בזמן המלחמה, עבדה מניה במסעדה ברוסיה. ב-27/07/40 נולד בנה הבכור, חיים. חמש שנים מאוחר יותר (23/02/45) נולדה בנה האמצעי, משה. בנה השלישי ייוולד כבר בישראל (23/10/55), וייקרא גם על שם המדינה - וגם על שם אביה. כל משפחתה שנותרה בפולניה הרחוקה - נרצחה במחנות ההשמדה. לא היה אל מה לשוב. לאחר תקופה קשה בבית המאולתר הראשון בחיפה, בואדי רושמיה, הצליחה מניה ובעלה לעבור בהדרגה אל דירת מגורים בשכונת נווה שאנן בחיפה. אחותה, ציפורה, גרה ממש לידה. מניה איבדה את בעלה, דוד, ב-1984. היא המשיכה לדאוג למשפחתה, ולהפוך ל"סבתא מניה" במשרה מלאה. היא נפטרה ב-8 במארס 2001, בגיל 79, לאחר מאבק הירואי במחלת הסרטן. Mania Breitman (Weintraub)Mania was born on March 15, 1921, in a wealthy home in the Polish village of Magnushev.Unfortunately, instead of continuing with the livelihood, her father (Israel) preferred to be in the vicinity of the synagogue and the Rebbe and found himself getting off his property and having difficulty finding a decent livelihood. His wife, Hava, later contracted tuberculosis and did not bear the burden of the household - which fell mainly on the shoulders of the younger stock. One day a young man named David saw Mania hanging laundry, and hurried to help her. He also notices that she is preoccupied with chores at home and in the yard. They both clung to each other as if they understood each other's distress: helping and supporting the long and difficult days of life. Mania's mother, Hava, died of the damned tuberculosis. Her father recognized her plight and sent it to relatives in the city of Warsaw (1936), with Uncle Benjamin Schwarzberg. When World War II broke out (1/9/1939), Mania was still in Warsaw. David went there to save her. A hasty marriage has been prepared over night, and they were now man and wife. David also managed to convince her sister, Tzipora (Pia), to join their risky journey. The young group managed to escape to Bialystok, where they were stopped at the Russian border by the Germans, but managed to move on and cross the border. By this time, Mania was already pregnant with her first son, Chaim. During WW2, Mania worked at a restaurant in Russia. On 27/07/40 her eldest son, Chaim, was born to a chaotic reality. Five years later (23/02/45) her middle son, Moshe, was born. Her third son will already be born in Israel (23/10/55), and will also be named after the state - and after her deceased father. All members of her Polish family were slaughtered in the Holocaust. After a difficult period in the first makeshift house, in Wadi Rushmia, Mania and her husband managed to move to a residential apartment in the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood of Haifa. Her sister, Tzipora, lives right next to her. Mania lost her husband, David, to cancer in 1984. She continued to take care of her family, becoming a full-time grandmother ("Savta Mania"). She died on March 8, 2001, at the age of 79, after a heroic battle with cancer.
